$31.5 million water treatment plant leads next phase of Jindabyne's growth

The NSW Government is taking another step towards Jindabyne's future, with major contracts awarded for two key projects under the Snowy Mountains Special Activation Precinct.

Construction contracts have now been awarded for the new Jindabyne Water Treatment Plant and Stage 1 of the Jindabyne Mountain Bike and Adventure Park.

The design and construction contract for the $31.5 million Water Treatment Plant has been awarded to Tallai Project Group Pty Ltd.

The project will provide Jindabyne with a modern and reliable drinking water supply, supporting the town's growing population and helping eliminate the need for precautionary boil water alerts that have affected the community in recent years.

Construction is expected to begin in December and take around 18 months.

Supporting works are also progressing with construction of the plant's power supply expected to begin later this year.

Procurement is also underway for a new water main connection to link the facility to the town's water network.

The Jindabyne Mountains Bike and Adventure Park has also reached a major milestone, with Next Level Mountain Bike awarded the design and construction contract for Stage 1 of the trail network.

The final stage will deliver 30 kilometres of purpose-built mountain bike trails and will include a pump track and dedicated skills area for riders of all abilities.

Design work is also continuing across the broader site, with construction of enabling infrastructure expected to begin in 2027.

The proposed works include a new intersection on Alpine Way, a pedestrian and cycle underpass at Kosciuszko Road, internal roads and parking, visitor amenities, and supporting utilities.

The underpass will connect the park to the Lake Jindabyne foreshore pathway, making it easier and safer for visitors to access the site.

When it opens in 2028, the park will join a growing pipeline of projects across Jindabyne, supporting local jobs, businesses and future growth, including the recently completed Sewer Pump Station 6 upgrade.

The $2.1 million project replaced ageing infrastructure that has been operating for more than 40 years.

Other projects underway include:

• The Jindabyne Wastewater Treatment Plant upgrade, with detailed design well advanced ahead of a construction tender expected in September.
• Water and sewer network extensions to increase capacity and unlock future residential and tourism development, with design progressing.
• Foreshore improvements, including new cultural, educational and wayfinding signage to enhance the visitor experience and strengthen links between the township and Lake Jindabyne.

The Snowy Mountains welcomed around 1.2 million domestic visitors in 2025, generating about $700 million for the local economy and highlighting the need to keep investing in the infrastructure that supports local communities and visitors.
