Monday, 4 August 2025

Solar and air conditioning upgrades, new flooring, and a brand new fit-out for a Men's Shed are among seven new local projects that have received funding, totalling $161,802, across the Snowy Monaro Regional Council (SMRC) LGA through the NSW Government's 2025 Community Building Partnership Program (CBP).

Member for Monaro Steve Whan said "Funds from this year's program are helping deliver vital services for youth in Cooma, they are improving Coolamatong and Delegate Country Clubs, and the Cooma Men's shed among others.

"I've heard from these organisations about the real difference these funds will make to their ability to meet needs in our community.

"It's why I'm excited that $13,000 is going to the Cooma Men's Shed to complete the fit-out and extension shell of their site. It's going to greatly improve the workshop area and I'm looking forward to seeing the work.

"I'd also like to congratulate Coolamatong Country Club on $40,000 to install solar panels on their town club. We know rooftop solar reduces emissions, and your power bill, so this is a substantial development for the club and its future.

"Cooma's Y Space provides a vital service to young people and their solar project with help their financial viability and sustainability."

This year, the CBP grants will help bring to life a variety of projects across Snowy Monaro, covering Delegate, Jindabyne, and Cooma including:

  • $40,000 for Coolamatong Country Club solar
  • $13,000 for Cooma Men's Shed
  • $19,890 for Cooma Y Space solar installation
  • $12,250 for flooring work at Jindabyne Sailing Club
  • $18,897 for flooring work at Cooma Uniting Church
  • $27,765 for air-conditioning upgrades at Delegate Country Club
  • $30,000 for Cooma Golf Club BBQ area upgrade

The Community Building Partnership program has funded more than 22,400 community projects since it commenced in 2009.

Steve Whan said "As always, there were more great projects than we could fund this round. If your organisation missed out or has a new idea in the works, I'd love to hear from you."

Local not-for-profit community organisations and councils were eligible to apply for grants ranging from $10,000 to $100,000, with up to $450,000 allocated per electorate. For more information, visit the Community Building Partnership website.
