Queanbeyan River shared path 'missing link' fix another step closer
Wednesday, 28 March 2025
Member for Monaro Steve Whan has announced more than $870,000 for improvements to shared walking paths along Queanbeyan River. this funding has been delivered by the Minns Labor Government under the 'Get Active NSW' grant program and has been awarded to Queanbeyan-Palerang Regional Council.
Funding has been delivered forĀ
- Shared user path along the western bank of Queanbeyan River from Glenrock Drain to existing shared path
- Construction of a shared path connecting Thrope Avenue to Queanbeyan River
"I'm a regular user of the existing shared path, sometimes on my bike and sometimes on foot. Any day I am there I see many members of our community out walking dogs, roaming with their children, or cycling.
"Our river is a fantastic asset for our town, and I know many residents enjoy being able to walk along it.
"We're fortunate in Queanbeyan to have a wonderful natural environment right at our doorstep, and Queanbeyan River is one of the area's highlights. Those who know me would know I will always advocate for and support any measure which encourages people to engage in a health and active lifestyle, and this is exactly what this funding will go towards.
"Constructing a shared path from Thorpe Avenue to the river will fix what's been considered a 'missing link' for shared path access, connecting the rover walk to the Queanbeyan CBD. This is all part of improving the Queanbeyan River shared path network so people of all ages and abilities can enjoy it equitably."
