Monaro Crown reserves secure funding

Member for Monaro Steve Whan today announced over $78,600 in grants to protect Crown land reserves and waterways across the Snowy Mountains region against invasive weeds and pests.
"It's fantastic to see this funding allocated to control the spread of weeds and pest rabbits which can have a devastating impact on the natural environment and amenity of our Crown reserves and waterways.
"The Crown reserves in our vast electorate play a critical role by protecting play a critical role by protecting the environment, and providing green open spaces for recreation activities, to keep our communities healthy and happy", said Steve Whan.
Monaro Electorate projects being funded include:
- $28,750 to control scotch broom, blackberry, willow regrowth, African lovegrass and serrated tussock which are impacting land and water biodiversity in the Bombala River corridor at Sandy Crossing Reserve,
- $29,000 to control blackberry, serrated tussock, African lovegrass, St Johns wort, and scotch broom at Cooma Common, North Ridge Reserve, and Currie Street Reserve,
- $19,500 to control a scotch broom weed infestation on Crown Land adjacent to the Old Adaminaby township,
- $4,400 to control a burgeoning rabbit population at Bungendore Rodeo and the Equestrian Sports and Recreation Reserve which is degrading the ecosystem and community spaces.
The NSW Government grants are being provided by Crown Lands in the Department of Planning, Housing, and Infrastructure from the Crown Reserves Improvement Fund (CRIF).
