Jindabyne hosts State BMX champions this April

Wednesday, 9 April 2025

Downhill slides and gravity-defying rides are on the agenda for BMX riders and fans in Jindabyne, with the town hosting Round Two of the 2025 AusCycling BMX Racing ACT/NSW State Series on 12-13 April 2025.

The event will be held at the Snowy Mountains BMX Track which received $291,205 in support from the NSW Government to upgrade the facility.

Snowy Mountains BMX Club President Mike Daly said the club was already popular, but the funding boost has taken it to the next level.

The club says members come from across the Snowy Monaro region and they run open sessions once a week and hope to be able to offer national level coaching and training camps and host local and regional schools in the near future.

As well as providing a fitness boost for participants, the broader community is benefiting from the BMX track upgrades too, with equipment sales and increased use of local hospitality and accommodation providers for larger events.

Age is no barrier to competitors in this year's championships with the club saying the event is open to riders aged between three and 60.

the club received funding to seal the track, instal bitumen on all the berms, build a start hill cover and finish line structure, buy storage and complete maintenance and landscaping to bring the track to National competition standard.

"It's wonderful to see an event of this calibre comes to Jindabyne and we hope it's the first of many more to come.

"Jindabyne is a fantastic area to explore over Easter too, and we look forward to the event brining people to stay, play, and boost local businesses over the April break.

"Our SAP plan for Jindabyne Mountain Bike Park, Kristy McBain's recent announcement of a Cooma Mountains Bike Park, and the Rail Trail upgrades, our region is becoming a cycling destination.

"I remember when Jindabyne hosted the Red Bul Rampage Downhill event in 2002, and there were spectators and visitors lined up along the dam wall to watch. I look forward to this BMW event doing the same."

Snowy Mountains BMX Club President Mike Daley said:

"We had a regular cohort of local riders but now we've been able to bring the track up to the national standard for BMX racing, and we are so excited that Jindabyne gets to host a round of the NSW/ACT State series for 2025.

"This achievement was only possible because we have delivered a facility that is capable of running an event of this level, a State round was one of our long-term goals and we've been able to make it happen much sooner than expected."

BMX Rider Johnn Graham said:

"The new track is one of the best I've ridden in the entire NSW/ACT area.

"It is fantastic with a great design - it's fast and fun and offers options for riders of all levels to test their skills."
