$50,000 grant to help Braidwood plan to get the best of Heritage
Tuesday, 1 July 2025
Member for Monaro, Steve Whan has announced a $50,000 grant from the Minns Labor Government's Heritage Grants Program to help Braidwood & Villages Chamber (The Chamber) develop a Heritage Interpretation Plan for Braidwood.
Queanbeyan-Palerang Regional Council (Council) has also committed $50,000 toward the $100,000 Heritage Interpretation Plan.
Steve Whan said "Braidwood was the first heritage listed town in NSW in 2006, with the listing recognising the wonderful and well-preserves Georgian era town plan and historic streetscapes. I supported this listing in my first term as local member, and I was pleased to see the town benefiting from the listing when I was re-elected in 2023.
"To its great credit, The Chamber has been working with Council and the State Government to ensure Braidwood is able to take advantage of the great opportunities its heritage status brings.
"It's something The Chamber has raised many times, and this Plan was a key recommendation of the reporting as part of the 15-year management review of the 2006 heritage listing.
"Development of the Plan will be led by The Chamber in partnership with local stakeholders. It will be supported by Council and delivered by GML Heritage.
"The Plan will guide interpretive outcomes, support heritage tourism, and improve clarity in heritage-related development within the township.
"Congratulations to The Chamber for their hard work and vision in working to see Braidwood thrive by taking advantage of its wonderful heritage.
"Thank you for Mayor Kenrick Winchester and all Councillors for their support and Minister Penny Sharpe for her positive responses to my representations on Braidwood."
