12 local projects win Community Building Partnerships Funding in QPRC

Monday, 4 August 2025

A top-quality turf cricket pitch for Googong, upgrades to Braidwood Old Sunday School Hall, and a new trailer for St John Ambulance are just three of the vital community projects funding in Queanbeyan-Palerang under this year's Community Building Partnerships Program.

Member for Monaro Steve Whan said he was delighted to see a wide range of projects supported, 12 local organisations receiving a total of $286,000 in funding to improve vital infrastructure and facilities that benefit the whole community.

"This funding recognises the incredible work being done by community groups and volunteers across QPRC," Steve Whan said.

"Projects have been funded in Queanbeyan, Bungendore, Braidwood, and several of our smaller towns.

"Some of the key projects funded in Queanbeyan include:

  • $10,000 for new indoor and outdoor seating at the Queanbeyan Bowls Club, providing more comfort for members and visitors at the key community hub.
  • $48,753 for the Queanbeyan St John Ambulance unit, to help provide a fully equipped trailer for rapid medical responses. This will support the important work of local volunteers who play a critical role in providing first aid at events and during emergencies.
  • $45,050 has also been awarded to the Queanbeyan District Cricket Club for vital repair and restoration at Rockley Oval in Googong. This project will improve the safety and usability of the playing surface ahead of the upcoming season, supporting the growth of local cricket teams while also benefiting schools and the broader community of recreational users.

"Whether it's improving safety, supporting grassroots sport, or providing shade and shelter for volunteers and families, this funding makes a real difference," Mr Whan said.

Other QPRC recipients of the 2025 CBP funding include:

  • $11,000 for maintenance at the Araluen Recreation Ground
  • $28,289 for basketball infrastructure at the Queanbeyan PCYC
  • $40,982 for a new water tank at Nerriga Catholic Church for use by RFS
  • $19,346 to upgrade the Braidwood Old Sunday School Hall
  • $15,262 for the Queanbeyan and District Preschool Association
  • $11,193 for firefighting equipment at the Charleyong RFS
  • $11,700 for new shelters at the Queanbeyan Dog Training Club
  • $25,700 for show jump arena repairs at the Bungendore Riding Club
  • $20,723 for window refurbishment at the Bungendore CWA

Steve Whan said "Once again this year there were many more applications than there were funds available. For organisations who have missed out it can be disappointing - but I would encourage community groups to talk to me about their projects and options that might be available."

The $41 million Community Building Partnership Program provides funding to councils and not-for-profit groups across NSW to support vibrant, inclusive, and resilient communities. Since 2009, more than 22,400 community projects have been funded under the CBP program.

Local not-for-profit community organisations and councils were eligible to apply for grants ranging from $10,000 to $100,000, with up to $450,000 allocated per electorate. For more information, visit theĀ Community Building Partnership website.
