MEDIA RELEASE

Friday, 13 December 2024

Member for Monaro Steve Whan has announced a new 760-metre eastbound overtaking lane on the Kings Highway at Mulloon is now open to traffic.

Made possible thank to a $4 million investment from the Minns Labor Government, the overtaking lane between Mulloon Creek and Goulburn Road is the second to be opened under the extensive program of upgrades on the Kings Highway.

These upgrades will provide a safer road and improve traffic efficiency between Batemans Bay and the NSW/ACT border.

From 2015 to 2019 there were 17 crashes along the highway at Mulloon, with one resulting in a fatality.

The new overtaking lane, along with additional safety treatments delivered in the area, are designed to help to reduce the likelihood of fatal and seriou8r injury crashes on the highway.

Safety upgrades in the rea will enhance the resilience of the road to incidents and natural hazards, and have included the installation of a widened centreline and shoulders, roadside safety barriers, and audio tactile line-marking.

The Kings Highway Upgrade program is expected to be complete by June 2025, weather permitting.
