Life-saving defibrillators to be installed at Monaro sporting facilities
Tuesday, 28 January 2025
Sporting organisations in Cooma and Delegate have received funding from the NSW Government for new potentially life-saving defibrillators.
Today's announcement brings the number of devices awarded since the program awarded since the program commenced to more than 2,500 across NSW.
"I congratulate the recipients and commend Cooma Bocce Sporting Club and Delegate Country Club for prioritising the safety and well-being of their participants", said Member for Monaro Steve Whan.
"With more people than ever participating in sport and active recreation across Monaro, it's vital that our local, often relatively isolated facilities are equipped with these potentially life-saving devices.
"We know that people often travel long distances to receive life-saving medical care in Monaro. It's for this reason that the Local Sport Defibrillator Program is so important to us.
"These devices are safe and easy to use, meaning if someone should need assistance, any member of the public can feel comfortable and confident using a defib to potentially save someone's life.
"It is important for all people to know that you do not need to be an expert to operate one of the modern defibrillators if someone is in need. the device will tell you what to do, so be confident and use it if it is required."
The funding was awarded to 193 sport and recreation organisations under the NSW Government's Local Sport Defibrillator Grant Program, which provides up to $3,000 for the purchase, installation, and training in new automated external defibrillators.
