Community Building Partnerships Grants Boost Local Community Groups
Friday, 7 June 2024
11 Monaro community organisations have received a share of the $300,000 Community Building Partnerships program for 2024.
Member for Monaro, Steve Whan said "It is always great to be able to assist organisations who do so much for our community and who do much to help themselves as well.
"In this round there are a number of grants that help organisations to finish important community projects.
"That includes the Queanbeyan Italian community festival who will be able to seal the carpark near their club on Carinya Street. Even though this carpark is the club's responsibility it is frequently used by users of the nearby Riverside Oval and the council run facility there.
"Burra Community Association will be able to build a community shed on a concrete slab they have already funded with a $39,106 grant; Queanbeyan PCYC will gain funding for security cameras; upper Shoalhaven Landcare funding for trailers and Bungendore War Memorial Hall can continue their refurbishment with restoration of flooring.
"Other grants in the Queanbeyan-Palerang area include Queanbeyan Park Tennis Club with $10,000 toward lighting at Queanbeyan East courts and the Queanbeyan City RFS with funding towards new lockers and QPRC with funding to undertake a post-flood restoration of greenways at Wamboin.
"The Community Building Partnership is a very important program, first introduced by Labor 15 years ago- it provides each of the 93 electorates the same amount of funds.
"I would not demand always well outstrips fund available, in this case the Monaro funding requests totalled $1.6 million for the $300,000 available. Clearly that means same groups will be disappointed. My suggestion to them is to keep trying, and to keep me informed about requests and the justification for why they are important to the community."
