$1.5 million upgrade at Snowy Mountains Grammar School

Tuesday, 6 February 2024

The NSW Government will deliver a $1,000,000 grant to Snowy Mountains Grammar School for the refurbishment and extension of school facilities.

The funding is part of the Government's Building Grants Assistance Scheme (BGAS), which is designed to help local schools build, extend or upgrade facilities to provide more student places in growing communities and areas of greatest need.

The BGAS scheme is in addition to the Government's record $8.8 billion investment in new and upgraded public schools over the next four years.

The Snowy Mountains Grammar School community is helping fund the $1,511,700 project which includes:

- Refurbishment of an existing building to create a PDHPE/Gymnasium facility including student amenities with new changerooms and bathrooms.

- Extension of additional offices to provide a PDHPE/Sport staffroom, and offices for counsellors and welfare staff.

- Two additional modular classrooms.

The NSW Government-funded BGAS is administered by the Association of Independent Schools of NSW and the Catholic Schools NSW Block Grant Authorities.

The scheme helps non-government schools with the greatest need and growing enrolments, taking in account fees, demographics, and socio-economic characteristics.

Member for Monaro Steve Whan said "this funding is a welcome boost to school facilities in Jindabyne. With a brand new Public High School under construction and the very successful Snowy Mountains Grammar, young people in Jindabyne and the region are getting access to the education they need for bright futures."

Principal of Snowy Mountains Grammar, Dr Andrew Bell said, "our school community is grateful for the financial assistance by the NSW Government under the BGAS program to deliver to our students some much-needed upgraded facilities in teaching and learning and to support the holistic wellbeing of our students."

Further adding "our school population has increased substantially over the past five years with growth year on year and these upgraded existing and additional facilities will enable important programs to be realised which will directly benefit students. Our teaching staff welcome the support in their pursuit to educate the next generation of outstanding young citizens within our growing school community."
